Launch of Centre for Sustainable Chemistry

Launch CSC

(29-11-2017)

On October 25th, the Centre for Sustainable Chemistry Ghent was officially launched with an event in the iGent building.

The Centre for Sustainable Chemistry (CSC) is an umbrella organization on sustainable chemistry originating from Ghent University with involvement of the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. CSC’s ambition is to increase cooperation in the field of sustainable chemistry between academics, industry, government and society according to the quadruple helix model. With the presence of top-class expertise in chemistry and chemical technology and unique infrastructure, CSC wants to put Ghent on the map as centre for sustainable chemistry in Flanders.

Through invited lectures given by Kevin Van Geem (UGent – CSC), Rik Van de Walle (UGent), Wouter De Geest (essencia), Jan Van Havenbergh (Catalisti) and Greet Van Eetvelde (INEOS) and a concluding panel debate, the importance of cooperation in the field of sustainable chemistry was emphasized by academia, industry and government. The high attendance and enthusiasm of both academic and industry partners confirmed the latter need and desire for cooperation.

Pictures of the event can be found at the UGent beeldbank.
